I received an Advanced Readers Copy for an honest review. Thank you Give Me Books Promotions for providing the ARC.
I have to admit, for being my first Alexa Riley novel I am decently pleased with the overall read. It was intriguing enough, fast paced drama with a nice chemistry setting, though I had a few pet peeves, mostly because it took a little to get use to her style and character compositions – I very much liked the novel.
Told from the perspective of the two protagonists Jordan and Jay. On the one hand we have Jordan who is an elite hacker security employee, he has a huge crush, slightly stalker yet awkwardly adorable attraction to watching Jay. Really, it is actually cute how Jordan initiates conversations with Jay. Jordan is also really likable, though his personality is decently exaggerated at times with his alpha male persona, he definitely was drool worthy. Feel the steam. I will also admit that I did like Jay and Jordan as a unit, however that is where I stop with my appreciation got Jay. So before I dive straight into the chemistry which I did enjoy, lets chat about Jay.
At first, Jay’s character came off slightly shy, a little off put type personality, definitely a hard exterior. Honestly though as the story line progressed, I found her rather annoying female lead. It is probably what made the novel in the most part hard for me to get involved with, I just could not get over Jay’s personalty. On one side, the synopsis portrayed her as this type of badass – sorry she is not. Her complete lack of independence really irked me as the relationship between Jordan evolved, by the first couple chapters, she was almost incapable of thinking for herself. Jay really played a damsel part which more than often became boring to read; she was rather weak, helpless and almost inferior type female lead.
Although I did not care for Jay as a single character, I did however like Jay and Jordan as a relationship. I liked the awkward chats, the quirky attractions, the adorable moments and their steamy connection. It did borderline to an exaggerated cheesy moment with the ‘love making’ chatter that made me somewhat chuckle at times, but really it was sweet. I liked their connection.
Overall, I enjoyed a lot about Claimed. Aside from my slight iffy dislikes, I really am curious about some of Riley’s other works, especially considering that I did not realize this was a series and I would like to read the other previous books within the For Her series. I definitely recommend checking out Claimed, again I really enjoyed the writing style, I liked the chemistry for the most part, the drama was really intense – all in all it was a solid, fast pace read!
