Review: The Raven Room by Ana Medeiros

The Raven RoomAnything you can imagine. Everything you crave. For the members of The Raven Room, it’s every fantasy fulfilled. But for some, that desire is a matter of life and death.

Drawn by needs he cannot control, Julian ventures to The Raven Room, a secret and exclusive sex club in the underbelly of Chicago. It goes beyond sex. It goes beyond kink. The Raven Room is the only place where Julian finds release from the dangerous urges that threaten to destroy the successful life he’s worked so hard to build.

When the police link the Raven Room to the death of a young woman, it threatens to expose a number of powerful people—people who would kill to stay anonymous…

Meredith’s body can’t get enough of Julian. He has opened her sexual horizons to tempting new possibilities. But out of bed she’s an aspiring journalist, and The Raven Room is the story she’s been looking for. By writing an exposé on the club and its elite clientele, she plans to launch her career.

As Meredith embarks on a sexual journey into the forbidden world that Julian inhabits, questions emerge, and dark appetites threaten to swallow her whole. How much can she trust the man who has laid bare her erotic nature and how much will she sacrifice in order to protect him?

The Raven Room was provided by TLC Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Holy shit… that was… well I will be honest with you it was goryhell amazeballs. I was either slipping off my seat from the steam or gripping on to the edge of my seat waiting to see what was happening next. I am beyond still reeling from what I just read from The Raven Room. Hell I don’t even know what I just read, I am just….I am speechless.

Okay, I am going to try to write this without rambling my rear off…

For starters I will be completely straight with you, this is my first ever Ana Medeiros book I have ever read, might I just say cheese and crackers she blew me away – literally she blew me the fuck away through the sky until I came crashing down. This read was absolutely gripping, she had me in a choke hold the entire way. It was her writing style, not just the characters and their building which I will get more to in a second, but her writing style was spot on genius. The questionable plot twists had my head spinning, absorbing the detail, prepping for the next catastrophic scene that would tumble over the pages yet nothing could prepare for what was happening. It was beyond intriguing. The premise delivered on the synopsis – still trying to piece together my angsty heart from the ground.

Obviously this is a dark romance, so I can’t go into this review without discussing the characters now can I? Meredith was a flip flop of opinions for me. At points I hated her for what she was doing behind Julian’s back for her career, gosh she fucking needed a twat punch. But yet as the story developed I loved her character, even the shit show of drama she was cascading downward. Not only is she a young twenty-something gal, she is promiscuous, head strong, stubborn with a great personality that is driven. As a reader you can’t help but respect that in a female lead.

Julian on the other hand is one big mystery. Clearly he is the world building of The Raven Room. From the moment you start the book, getting the taste of his straightforward desires, plus boundaries you can’t help but want to dig with Meredith into his soul – he is hiding so much and I have to know! Seriously, what makes Julian Reeve tick? And that sexual appetite, whew – massive fantasies just rewinding in my brain, where can I get a Julian for myself? Do they sale those at Wal-Mart?

Not only my admiration for Meredith and my curiosity for Julian could prepare me for their relationship. Even in the mixture of lies, there is still somewhat an honest truth about their relationship as lovers and friends. Julian understands Meredith, not just her sexual needs but her internal conflicts, self-doubt and personality. Meredith seconds this nature (though she conflicts between her career and her budding relationship with Julian) she leans on his strength. There is just a level of trust and respect that you just can help but enjoy to read. I honestly loved their friendship, it wasn’t just their chemistry between the two as lovers, it was their conversations that really aided this along.

What I loved as well about this amazing book? It wasn’t from the one/two sided perspective – it was a collection of perspectives from third party which just heightened the suspense. The supporting characters really developed the drama. I am still trying to figure everything out – that cliffhanger comrades! It has me spiraling.

I will be straight with you – this was a bizarre, sexually satisfying read with the best twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing style is absolutely stunning, the plot was beyond my expectations, and the characters had such depth that left me questioning everything as the book developed.

I highly recommend picking up The Raven Room, hell I know I am starting Savage Bonds and I just know I am in for a kickass story.
