Working in Hollywood meant Jessica Dawson was used to lying. As an assistant to one of the biggest agents in town, biting her tongue and spewing out sugarcoated untruths were an almost daily occurrence. But fabricating alternate realities never spilled into her personal life, until three months ago when she told the biggest lie of all.

While her dear gran lay on her deathbed, Jessica mentioned she’d met her soul mate. It had been Gran’s last wish to see all her grandkids settled down before she went to see Jesus. And as the only one still single, Jessica didn’t have the heart to disappoint her.

No one expected Gran to make a miraculous recovery.

Now, Gran was expecting to meet Jessica’s perfect man at her cousin’s wedding, which meant she needed to find a perfect man fast. Hiring a professional was the only solution.

Enter Dave Larsson, younger brother to one of Hollywood’s elite.

Sexy, funny and just as smoldering hot as his super-famous sibling—he had talent and charm to spare. But most importantly, he was affordable and available.

All she needed to do was haul Dave home, have him meet Gran and the family, then shortly after the wedding, “break up” with him.

It was either that, or admit to her #1 Lie.

Only thing she didn’t plan on was the bigger lie she would need to tell herself when it was time to let him go.

Guys! Seriously comrades I LOVE romantic comedies – cannot get enough of them. And when I say you need to check out Gephart I mean you need to stop what you are doing now and add her to your TBR yesterday. It isn’t even her inventing a new wheel on the romcom genre, it is simply that she is such an amazing writer and this series is just an amazing example of how entertainingly hilarious she is with her fictional characters and plot dynamics. She takes a favorable trope and explodes it into such a charismatic chuckling feast with some deliciously believable chemistry.

And obviously because this is a series I will do a quick mention, #1 Lie can be read as a standalone regardless of it being book four, so don’t be afraid to skip ahead if you want but honestly I highly recommend reading books one, two, and three. If not because they do connect to some degree, but really because the series if flipping hilarious and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Well now that revealed one truth, lets dive into the review shall we?

I love tropes where there is a ‘lets pretend’ romance. It is just a fun plot that always has a comedic mojo to it with a full predictable drama climax that never disappoints. Gephart of course nailed it on this factor. Not only was the basis of the faking a relationship trope adamant, but it was believable, beautifully paced with both hilarious dynamics and steam filled chemistry.

Jessica is definitely an amazing female character. I don’t think there was a point or situation where I did not like her personality. She is obviously a work-aholic by trade, well respected and also knows how to have fun. I loved Jess, plain and simple. Though going in you might think, why lie about having a boyfriend? But it just made her quirky personality more adorable. Dave on the other hand was just as scrumptious as I had hoped for. He was really sweet, considerate and an interesting character that honestly took the show. He was perfection – I loved him.

And not to mention too much, but seriously their chemistry was beaver drool worthy. From the moment Dave agreed to be the ‘Fake Wedding Date’ to the moment of their climatic drama it was evident there was a firey chemistry between the two characters. What I liked most about them was moments leading towards the obvious sexual attraction – getting to know one another, the ‘group date’ plus the hilariously unfortunate attempt to breaking the ice with their kissing was classic. They were adorable, fun and entertaining mixture that just clicked in the best of ways that had me grinning from ear to ear as I read. Plus that hotel scene…. oh my lanta is it hot in here or is that my pants? Yeah… definitely my pants because they are on fire! Whew.

Before you ask too, I will admit that I wasn’t ready for the story to come to an end, but as every great story begins it needs to end; Jessica and Dave have the perfect dramatic climax to their romance story. Though yes, there was a certain level of insta-love/attraction to the overall plot, it did not deter from my enjoyment of reaching this happy ever after. And obviously before we get there we need some drama – it was super believable. I liked it.

Overall I enjoyed #1 Lie, and I have thus so far enjoyed this series. There were laughing, smiles, swooning and gooey melting off my seat yummy to keep me wanting more and more of Jessica and Dave’s love story. The development of the connection between them was perfection. I honestly cannot wait to see what is next in store for this series, assuming there is more to come which I truly hope there is! I know I will dive head first into anything by Gephart at this point… And so should you!

She’d tell you all about it, but the statute of limitations hasn’t expired yet. But all those crazy twists and turns have led her to a career she loves—writing romantic comedy.

When she isn’t filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she’s living her own reality show in the ‘burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

She loves adventure, to laugh, travel, and strives to live her life to the fullest.
