Review: Sigil | IRDESI EMPIRE Series by Addison Cain

SIGILHe will possess her in every way.

After a century, The Irdesi Emperor has finally cornered their species’ only female. Sovereign and his fanatic brothers are closing in, driving Sigil to desperation.

They outnumber her, they are stronger, and they are relentless.

Sovereign knows her secrets better than Sigil knows herself. He knows she was conditioned to hate him. It changes nothing. The Emperor cannot help but crave her—just as his loyal brothers crave her.

The entire future of their species hinges on Sovereign’s ability to dominate the slippery renegade and make her feel the truth of what she is. She is his Consort. She is his obsession—a bride destined to be shared with and adored by his kin… to be satiated and ruled, to be overpowered and healed of her compulsions by any means necessary.

She has no choice in the matter. The empire will stop at nothing. Sigil will belong to them; she will be made to love them, even if they are forced to rip the galaxy apart to claim her.

This is the updated version, new edits and extended from the original released Sigil. I received this copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Addison Cain for this opportunity!

This was the first (and at this point), my only book I have read from Addison Cain. I have her Alpha Claim on my Kindle, just haven’t made my way to opening them but now I remember why I like her writing style – it is just so damn good. I am beguiled body and soul by her work. Why do I keep pushing her aside is beyond me at this point and this stops now! Back when I first bought Sigil in 2017, I loved it. I thought it was beyond worldly, unique dark romance with such a kickass blend of Science Fiction backbone. With that being said, I won’t entirely give away too many details (avoiding spoilers) on the differences between the original verses the extended Sigil, but I will obviously put it to you straight – right off the bat there is just more depth to this already endless oasis of a book…

So lets just kick this off!

First thing first, what do I love most about this? Obviously I love dark romance and erotica but this premise is more, boy is it so much more. The world building that comes with the cast is beyond phenomenal. Sigil is rough, tough as hell badass heroine along side with multiple anti-heroes, who are out rightly disturbing and delicious. Really conflicts with a readers emotions as the twists and turns are devoured by the pages because each character has something about them where you aren’t sure if you should be drooling or disturbed by what is occuring. But honestly, the blends between balancing the world building and the romance attributes – it is perfection. They co-exist.

Something else to understand as well, I know that I say there is a great balance of the genres within one book, do not go in this thinking it will just be one big orgy. Something that I personally enjoyed most about Sigil was that the romance and erotica were part of the backbone of the story but were not the key element to the plot growth. Yes there is sex. Yes there is some public yummy goodness. Yes there is some questionable moments where I am oddly turned on by the disturbing violent setting of sexual prowess. But the element of romance is not the highlight, at least in my opinion.

Let me explain…

In terms of Que and Quinn (Sigil), they have what shadows as a owner/slave relationship with some semblance of feelings. I believe that Que in fact has Sigil’s heart. He is her savior, pure in her world of complete hell. Once the Sovereign enters the picture, the feelings for her beloved Que are still there clawing and fighting for her beloved, but it turns more to the survival instincts not just on Sigil’s part to participate, but the politics surrounding the Sovereign and their people. I know, this is like a whirlwind of rambling thoughts but think about this for a second – the story surrounding Sovereign is the world building not just the budding romance aspects.

Not saying the romance and erotic moments aren’t hot as hell, I want more (everyone could always use a little more dirty) and cannot wait to see how this angle develops, especially considering the ending – whoah. But I still feel that the romance aids the plot along while coexisting with the science fiction premise. It just flipping blends. This is something many authors attempt yet in my opinion, not many succeed in successfully developing all aspects of genres jammed packed in one book. Goryhell it was perfect.

I cannot say this enough, this is one hell of a book and now with the newer edition I can honestly say it is stunningly intoxicating.  From the new edits and the extended attributes that overall aided so much more to the flow of this whirlwind story. It was great before but now it is absolute perfection. I felt there was more growth of the world building, not just the surrounding build of the nature of Sigil vs the Sovereign. How can I convey that more without sounding like a broken record? I am sorry comrades but I say it then and I say it now – this was kickass.

I highly recommend picking up Sigil. Whether you have read the original, this will only aid in the enjoyment or being new to the series – you will not be disappointed. This unique world is screaming to be devoured.
